The length of a rectangle is decreased by 10% and its breadth is increased by 10%. By what percent is its area changed?
A0%
B1%
C5%
D100%

Answer is : 1%

Explanation:

When there is an increase in sides of a figure, the net increase in its area is

\(= x+y+\frac{xy}{100} \%\)

where x and y are length and breadth

given, length x decreased by 10. so, x =  -10.

breadth y increased by 10. so, y = 10.

percent is its area changed
\(= -10 + 10 + \frac{-10 \times10}{100}\% = -1 \%\)

\(\therefore \text{ percent of area decresed by 1%}\)
