At what temperature do both Centigrade and Fahrenheit thermometers show the same reading?

At what temperature do both Centigrade and Fahrenheit thermometers show the same reading?
A−20°
B−40°
C42°
D

Correct answer is: −40°

Explanation:

Let F is Fahrenheit and C is Celsius.

The conversion formula is:

\(F = C \times \frac{9}{5} + 32\)

given that F and C is equal.

so,

\(F = F \times \frac{9}{5} +32\)

\(F- \frac{9F}{5} =32\)
\(\frac{5F-9F}{5}=32\)

\(\frac{-4F}{5}=32\)

\(-4F = 32 \times 5\)

\(F = - \frac{160}{4}\)

\(F = -40\)
