Explanation:

Let the age of Sonu be x yr

∴ Age of Sonu’s father = 5x yr

5x + 8 = 3(x + 8)

5x + 8 = 3x + 24

2x = 16

x = 8

∴ Age of Sonu is 8 yr and age of his father is 40 yr.
